Photography Lessons

So I have decided to take basic photography lessons. I planned on doing this (and wanted to) even before I got my camera, but since I have my camera, my lack of understanding on many things are beginning to show, and I feel that these lessons will help.

The lessons I'm taking are on a website called: http://twopeasinabucket.kaboose.com/. The lessons are located here.

With each lesson is a challenge. I decided to go outside today and shoot a few things. It was fun, however, I don't feel as if I got very clear shots as I could have. Tomorrow is a new day however! :)

This weeks challenge is Aperture. They are trying to teach the difference between f/stops. The basic definition, from my understanding, is that the f/stop determines how much of your picture is in focus. The smaller the aperture, the less light allowed and vice versa. F/1.4 would be a wide open aperture on most high-end lenses and f/22 would be a virtually closed aperture. So the challenge is to take a picture from an open aperture to a higher. Here are my pictures:

The following pictures are just random ones I took around our apartment. Enjoy!

Playing with depth of field is fun stuff. I took photography years ago (back before you were born - gaahh!) and I used only manual cameras. In some ways they gave you a lot more control. But not being able to see the results like you can on modern cameras made for some unpleasant surprises in the darkroom.

Sad thought: Do you even use a darkroom?

I found your blog by clicking around in my profile, btw. I'm reading 'Love and Respect' after 20 years of marriage. I'm glad you've read it at the beginning of yours. It's a very good book.
